Creativity, Community and Fundraising: A Special Evening at North West Jewellery School
There’s something rather special about spending an evening learning a new skill and creating something with your own hands. Add good company, a little creativity and the chance to support a local charity, and you have all the ingredients for a memorable evening.
That’s exactly what our recent sterling silver ring-making workshop was all about, as we welcomed a group of jewellery enthusiasts to North West Jewellery School for an evening of creativity, conversation and fundraising for SIS – Strength in Struggles.
Making something completely your own
The workshop focused on creating a personalised sterling silver ring, taking participants through the process from a simple piece of silver to a finished piece of jewellery they could take home.
Our workshops are designed to be practical and hands-on. After being shown the techniques involved, participants have the opportunity to get stuck in themselves, with guidance and support throughout the process.
There’s something very satisfying about watching a piece of silver gradually take shape. From shaping and joining the metal through to adding the finishing touches, every stage gives you the opportunity to put your own stamp on the finished piece. And, of course, there’s that wonderful moment at the end when you can look down at your finished jewellery and think, “I made that!”
No two pieces are exactly the same, which is one of the things we love most about our workshops.
An evening supporting SIS – Strength in Struggles
This particular workshop was held in support of SIS – Strength in Struggles, a local organisation supporting people through lived experience.
SIS provides a range of services within the local community, including peer-to-peer support groups, wellbeing walks, one-to-one coaching, Mini Medics and funded therapeutic counselling.
We’re proud to be able to support local causes through our fundraising activities. Bringing people together to enjoy a creative experience while raising money for an organisation doing valuable work in the community is something we feel very strongly about. The workshop was also a lovely example of how local businesses, groups and individuals can come together to support causes that matter to the community.
More than just a jewellery workshop
Our jewellery workshops aren't simply about learning how to make a piece of jewellery.
For many people, they provide an opportunity to step away from the usual routine for a few hours and do something completely different. There’s something particularly absorbing about working with your hands, learning a new technique and concentrating on the piece you’re creating.
They’re also a chance to meet people, spend time with friends and enjoy a relaxed, creative evening.
We regularly welcome people who have never made jewellery before, alongside those who have already discovered a love of jewellery making. You don’t need to have previous experience – just an interest in having a go.
And because everyone brings their own ideas and personality to the process, the finished jewellery is always wonderfully individual.
A variety of jewellery-making experiences
At North West Jewellery School, we offer a range of workshops and classes covering different jewellery-making techniques and materials. Depending on the workshop, you could learn to make sterling silver rings, stacking rings, bangles, sea glass jewellery, silver clay pieces or gemstone jewellery, with new projects and techniques to discover throughout the year.
We also offer private workshops, hen parties, corporate events and bespoke group experiences, giving you the opportunity to enjoy jewellery making as part of a celebration, team day or simply a different way to spend time together. Whether you’re looking to try something completely new, develop your jewellery-making skills or enjoy a creative experience with friends, there’s something for everyone.
Supporting local creativity and community
We love being part of the local community and creating opportunities for people to come together, learn something new and enjoy being creative.
Fundraising workshops such as this one are particularly rewarding because they allow us to combine all of those things while supporting organisations and causes that make a difference locally.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for this special evening and helped us raise money for SIS – Strength in Struggles. We hope everyone went home with a piece of jewellery they’re proud of, some new skills to take away with them and, most importantly, a lovely evening to remember.
