Since opening our doors in April 2023, we are delighted to have run over 100 jewellery making workshops from our studio at Backridge Farm, Clitheroe, Lancashire. But how did we get here and what's changed from our first jewellery making workshop to now...
It all began with a vision of creating an environment where people could come and learn the art of jewellery making and after a year of using local venues, it was time to find our own dedicated space. We searched high and low to find the perfect setting for our students in the Ribble Valley and in January 2023, 1 Open Barn became ours.
After a three month renovation project, we opened our doors and in our first week we ran a corporate workshop for Raymond James and Age UK Lancashire, helping 14 women create bespoke necklaces. This was just the beginning...
From there, we have hosted many private jewellery making workshops and also had a huge array of public jewellery workshops available for you to join. We introduced our weekly jewellery making classes, which have been a huge success and have seen us build a community of makers who come and join us once a week to work on their projects.
We added Silver Clay workshops to our list of classes, allowing complete beginners to try the art of creating jewellery from clay, that when fired in a kiln, turns into fine silver.
These taster sessions have been very popular and we continuously look at developing new workshops based on what our students are interested in learning. Feedback is our friend!
In the past 6 months, we have welcomed two new tutors to the school and Eleanor and Lottie have settled in well and become part of the North West Jewellery School family! It is with the addition of like minded tutors, incredible students and a whole lot of hard work that we walked away as winners of the Ribble Valley Business Awards New Business of the Year in March this year...
It feels strange going into our second year having achieved so much because what started as a vision about jewellery making workshops has turned into something so much more. We are fully committed to our community of makers and have even more exciting plans for the next 12 months.
Amidst the plans, we will continue to provide a calm and welcoming space for you to enjoy making jewellery! Our journey has only just started and we are excited for you to join us for the next chapter.
